Action Research

At school we are using action research aka teaching as inquiry for performance appraisal.

I have identified a problem with my 16year old chemistry students in learning about quantitative chemistry. A greater proportion of the students fail this than fail the other assesments (graph).
I propose to use the Pogil cooperative learning technique to improve the results. I believe the students will improve when they have understanding of how the calculations are done rather than just knowing how to do them.
They will need resource sheets with scaffolded questions. I will need to change how I teach. I will judge if this was successful by comparing their results against the other internal assessment they did and by a questionaire at the end of the topic.
